Dear Student and Parent/Guardian, It’s that time again…summertime! I know everyone, including myself, is excited about the warm weather and the break from school. Let’s not forget though that there is summer reading to be done. It has been speculated that about 95% of the children in the U.S. play video games, watch television, chat with their friends, or play on the computer but only 5% of children tend to enjoy reading. This summer reading project was designed to prove that statistic false by allowing you to appreciate just how fun reading can actually be (remember, don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it!). Just because you don’t like a certain genre of literature, don’t write off reading all together. This project will allow you to choose your reading material in the hopes that freedom of choice will ignite in you a lifelong love of reading. Don’t look at summer reading as yet another boring English assignment – look at it as a way to learn more about yourself and your peers (not to mention how much this project will help you with CAPT, in-class assignments, writing, vocabulary, public speaking, your shop…). J The summer reading flyer lists books you may choose to read over the summer; you only have to read one book. You must then complete 2 projects, one written (Task A) and one creative (Task B). The book will not be provided to you. You must either check it out from your local library or purchase it from a bookstore. No complaints please – if you can spend $150 or more on a pair of shoes or an ipod, then you can spend $5-10 on a book or take the time to visit the library. Both projects, written and creative, are due no later than Friday, August 28th, 2009 by 2:11 p.m. All students who fully complete the project and turn it in by 2:11 on the 28th will receive a pizza party.
